These permanent metal filters capture dirt particles, fine lint, and airborne contaminants through adhesive-based impingement, in which contaminants adhere to a thin film of filter adhesive on the media.

Maintenance & Recoating Requirements
After use, Navy-standard filters should be:
- Washed thoroughly
- Rinsed completely
- Allowed to dry
- Re-coated with a thin layer of filter adhesive
- (Except in certain older ship commissary applications where grease filters should not be coated)
A light adhesive application is required on the inlet side of the filtering media to ensure dust, lint, and particulate adhere properly during operation.
